Yang Ryu, age 68 of Decorah, Iowa, the mother of Nika Lee, died Monday, January 25, 2010 at home in Decorah. Funeral Service will be at 11:30 A.M. Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah with Rev. John Chung officiating. Burial will be in the St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery in Decorah. Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and after 8:00 A.M. Thursday. Yang Ryu was born in Seoul, Korea on July 25, 1941 the daughter of Na Song Ha and Kim Pan Nell. She spent much of her life in Seoul, Korea, raising her family and as a housewife. Yang immigrated to the United States in 1992. She spent eighteen years in Decorah, Iowa. She worked at the Cho Sun Restaurant for about eleven years, helping her daughter, Nika. She also helped to raise her grandchildren in Decorah. She was a member of the New Hope Church in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Survivors include her husband, Doo Suk Ryu of Decorah; two daughters: Nika Lee (Hyang B. Lee) and Soung Sook Ryu (Hea young Seo) of Decorah; two sons: Soung Jil Ryu and Jae Shin Ryu of Korea; eight grandchildren: Peter, Paul, Jay and James Lee, Joseph Seo, Sin young, Ho sang and Min Woo.
