Wayne Roberts

Wayne Roberts, age 82, passed away with family by his side on Thursday, June 19th, 2025, at Trinity Care Center in Farmington, MN, following a battle with Parkinson's and memory loss.

Celebration of life will be on Friday, July 11, 2025, happy hour from 4 – 5 p.m., meal served from 5 -7 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 105 River Street, Decorah, IA.

Wayne Roberts was born March 29, 1943, in Cresco, IA. Wayne went to school at Assumption Catholic Grade School and Notre Dame High School in Cresco, IA.

Wayne married the love of his life, LaVene Hoppe December 1st, 1962. They lived an adventure-filled life until LaVene lost her battle with cancer on September 2, 2005.

Wayne worked at Bartlett Electric for most of his working career. he started there at the age of 17 in Cresco, IA, and then moved to Decorah, IA.  Wayne also fulfilled a lifelong dream and owned Nob Hill Supper Club in Decorah in the 80’s for a few years.  After Wayne retired, he took a job at Langs Dairy in their shop, doing what he did best, fixing things.

Wayne loved Fishing, Golfing, Bowling, Camping, and Porch nights with his Neighbors. He was a great cook, his breakfast and shore Lunches on his Coleman Stove with a Cast Aluminum Maytag lid were famous among friends and family. Wayne had a love for acting and did several plays with the New Minowa Players.  Wayne was also very active at the Decorah Elks Lodge, where he and LaVene attended many Elks Conventions. Wayne also started the Fish fry on Friday nights many years ago. The Elks Lodge was Wayne's favorite Happy Hour stop. Wayne lastly and most importantly loved spending time with his Family and Friends.

Wayne survivors include, one son: Dennis (Susy) Roberts of Rosemount MN, One Daughter: Benita (Kevin) Schemionek of Farmington MN , Five Grandchildren: Danielle (Tyler) Rechtzigel of Elko - New Market MN ,Jessica (Cody) Brown of Lakeville MN , Dylan, Kylie, & Zoey Roberts all of Rosemount MN, Five Great Grandchildren: Sorren, Kora, Freya, Vincent, & Uriah Brown of Lakeville MN, One Sister: Sharon Lukes of Waterloo IA, One Sister: In Law & Brother In Law LaVonne and Kenneth Fishell of Cummings Georgia and several nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his Parents: Robert Roberts & Eunice Pentico, and His Wife: LaVene Roberts.
