Wanda (Mrs. Duane) Jacobson, 72, of Belvidere, Illinois, formerly of Decorah, Iowa, died Thursday, April 7, 2011 at her home in Belvidere. Visitation will be held at the Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home in Belvidere on Monday, April 11 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Pastor Karl Otto, Zion Lutheran Church, will conduct a brief memorial at 6:00 PM. A second visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 12 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Big Canoe Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa with the Pastor David H. Andreae officiating. Visitation begins on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at the church, one hour before the service. Burial is in Big Canoe Cemetery. Wanda Lou Mavis (Erickson) Jacobson was born February 11, 1939 in rural Harmony, Minnesota, the daughter of Ernest M. and Mary Erickson. She was baptize and confirmed at Scheie Lutheran Church, in rural Mabel, Minnesota. When Wanda was five years old her family moved to a farm in Blackhammer Township, Houston County Minnesota which is located north of Spring Grove, Minnesota. Wanda attended Spring Grove High School. She was united in marriage with Duane Emmet Jacobson November 21, 1956 at the Scheie Lutheran Church, rural Mabel Minnesota. They farmed on the Jacobson family farm near Decorah until 1969 when they moved to Belvidere, Illinois where Duane was employed by the Chrysler Corporation. Wanda was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed her family, friends and was a faithful member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Belvidere. Wanda is survived by her husband, Duane; her children: Wes Jacobson and his girl friend, Lori Strode of Dunlap, IL, Darla Jacobson of Rockford, IL and Eric and his wife, Catherine (McNeal) Jacobson of Brookfield, WI; five grandchildren: Laura (Matt) Thurlby, Ashley Hippard, Claire Jacobson, Emily Jacobson and Kevin Jacobson; and a great granddaughter, Isabelle Hippard. She is also survived by brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Lyle and Babe Jacobson, Marlys Larson, Rodney and Mary Jacobson, Lemoyne and Elaine Jacobson. She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest M. and Mary Erickson, her brother Mervin and sister Shirley.
