Walter Kulish

Walter Kulish, age 73, of St. Ansgar, IA, died on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at his home in St. Ansgar, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 304 South Maryville Street, Calmar, IA, with Rev. Robert Gross presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel, 202 South Washington Street, in Calmar, IA, and also after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Wednesday morning. Walter Eugene Kulish was born on January 5, 1945, in Decorah, IA to Walter and Geneveive (Barr) Kulish. He attended St Aloysius Catholic School, where he was also an altar boy. He also attended South Winneshiek High School. He was united in marriage to Rita (Overhaug) Kulish on March 5,1965 in Decorah, IA. They had two sons James and Mark Kulish. Walter worked for Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, IA and later for the Milwaukee Railroad. Walter, Rita, Mark and Stacy worked together in the mail processing business they started in 2003 in La Crosse WI which they moved to Tennessee. Walter enjoyed cars and keeping them running fast. He enjoyed collecting antiques with Rita. He also had a great a time hunting and fishing. Boating was activity he enjoyed. Another favorite pastime was camping or just spending time with family and friends. Walter was a man of integrity and strength. He worked hard all his life to support his family. He always kept a roof over our heads and provided food for his family. Walter is survived by his two sons: James (Jane) Kulish, Ames, IA, and Mark Kulish, Johnson City, TN. Three grandchildren: Melissa Kulish, Johnson City, TN, Nicole (Adam) Hyer, Ames, IA, and Jeremy (Tricia) Milam, Maricopa, AZ. Great grandchildren: Jordyn Milam and Gio Milam. Former daughter-in-law: Stacey Kulish, Johnson City, TN. Brothers and sisters: Rose Marie (Duane) Macal, Monroe, OH; Patricia Shuman, Osage, IA; Clifford (Rita) Kulish, Fayette, IA; Wayne Kulish, St. Ansgar, IA; Michael Kulish, Northwood, IA; Maurice “Boog” (Joanie) Kulish, Protivin, IA; Kevin (Kris) Kulish, Calmar, IA, along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife: Rita Jean (Overhaug) Kulish. His parents: Walter and Genevieve (Barr) Kulish. Mother and father-in-law: Oscar and Ida (Flatten) Overhaug. Brother: David Kulish. Brother-in-law: Lowell Shuman.
