Viola "Vi" Frana

Viola Frana, age 79, of Edina, MN, formerly of Spillville, IA, died on Oct. 23, 2012, at the Edina Care Center in Edina, MN. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, IA with Rev. Donald Hawes presiding, burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 pm on Monday October 29, 2012 at the Balik Funeral Home in Spillville and from 10:00 – 11:00 at the church on Tuesday at the Church. Viola Victoria Frana was born on December 23, 1932, on the Frana family farm near Conover, Iowa, to Adolph and Tillie (Pecka) Frana. Vi attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School and country school. She received her GED from the American School of Chicago, IL and graduated from the Weaver Airline Travel School from Kansas City, MO. Some of the positions she held during her thirty-five years in the travel industry were group specialist, manager and international agent. After retirement, she worked part time for Minneapolis Floral and Food demonstrating on weekends. Vi was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church of Minneapolis, where she was a Eucharistic minister, belonged to the “Knit & Quilting” group, and a volunteer at funeral luncheons. Vi enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing cards, bingo and joining friends for concerts, plays and eating out. Viola’s survivors include her sister: Georgina Frana, Edina, MN. Three brothers: Jerome (Lois) Frana, Ossian, IA; Marcelline “Marc” Frana, Charles City, IA and Julius Frana, Fort Atkinson, IA. Sisters-in-law: Marie Frana, Decorah, IA; Wilma Frana, Decorah, IA and Elaine Frana, Decorah, IA and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Viola was preceded in death by her parents: Adolph and Tillie Frana; one sister: Martha Frana in 2004; six brothers: Arthur, George, Leonard, Adolph, Ermin and Stanley Frana. Three sisters-in-law: Monica Frana, Sonia Frana and Janice Frana. Nephews: Brian and Ronald Frana and a great – nephew: Matthew Krewson.
