Vernon H. Emery

Vernon H. Emery, age 84, of Decorah, IA, died Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Wellington Place in Decorah. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah. Burial will be in Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak with full military honors. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Thursday, September 20 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah. Vernon Howard Emery was born on March 22, 1928 on the family farm in Winneshiek County near Bluffton, Iowa, the son of George and Clara (Morrison) Emery. He was baptized at the Advent Christian Church in Burr Oak and he attended Bluffton #3 country school through the 8th grade. He served in the U.S. Army from June 1948 to May 1952. Vernon owned and operated his farm near Canton, MN for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Sarah and May Emery and two brothers, Floyd and Bryce Emery. Vernon is survived by his sister, Neva Emery of Decorah and his brother, Melvin Emery of Chatfield, MN.
