Travis J. Henzler, age 29, of Council Bluffs, IA and formerly of Decorah, IA, died May 2, 2016 in Council Bluffs. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2016 at Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah with Rev. Charis Combs-Lay and Rev. David Sorenson officiating. Inurnment will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah with Full Military Honors. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 8 at Fjelstul Funeral Home and on Monday beginning at 10:00 p.m., one hour before the service, at Decorah Lutheran Church. Travis John Henzler was born June 4, 1986 in Hutchinson, KS. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. He attended Decorah Community Schools and graduated with the class of 2005. He joined the U.S. Marines after high school and had two tours of duty in Iraq. He married Melissa Mendoza on August 8, 2014. Travis attended Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, IA and graduated in 2015 with a degree in Turf & Landscape Management. He was employed at American Security in Council Bluffs, IA. Travis enjoyed flowers and landscaping. He was blessed with many close friends and his marine buddies. He loved the outdoors, music, all animals, especially his dog, Reggie, and his cats. He was preceded in death by his father, James Henzler on October 14, 1997; his sister Elizabeth Henzler on February 25, 1987; and his grandparents, Oscar & Hazel Skaim and Paul & Martina Henzler. Travis is survived by his wife Melissa and his step-children, Jackson Mendoza, Chloe Nichols and Trinity Wilson, all of Council Bluffs; his mother Luane Skaim Henzler of Decorah; his birth mother, Peggy (Jay) Goldapp of Council Bluffs, IA; his siblings, Chris Nichols of Omaha, NE, Jennifer (David) Kelso of Newton, IA, Natalie (fiancé, Agustin Leon) Mendez of Council Bluffs, IA, Andrea Henzler of Rochester, MN, Sara Henzler of Cresco, IA, Kyle Boerhave and Lucas Boerhave; his grandparents, Julie and Larry Shinn of Council Bluffs; aunts and uncles, Sue and Paul Bruvold of Decorah, Mary and Howard Deters of Spring Grove, MN and Thomas and Margaret Henzler of Madison, WI; and by many nieces and nephews.
