Tim Novak, age 65, of Spillville, IA died Saturday, January 9, 2010 at his home after a long illness. Memorial Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, IA with Rev. Donald Hawes and Rev. Norm Bauer presiding. Burial of ashes will be at a later date in the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Spillville. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Balik Funeral Home in Spillville, and after 10:00 at the church on Thursday Timothy Adolph Novak was born June 29, 1944 in Waverly, IA. Tim was adopted by Roy V. Novak and Barbara (Klimesh) Novak of Spillville, IA. He attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School. He graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1962. He attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, IA. Tim then worked at several jobs around the Midwest, including Caterpillar Company in Joliet, Illinois, before starting to work at the Citizens Savings Bank as a bookkeeper during his earlier years in the bank. Tim also joined the Army Reserve at Decorah, IA, spending basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Tim was married to Cheryl (Berg) on December 17, 1971 in Rochester, MN. Tim was very active in the community. Tim was elected to the Spillville Town Council in 1972 and from 1976 - 1982 he was the Mayor of Spillville. He was a charter member of the South Winn Area Jaycees, a member of the Civic Improvement Association, South Winn Golf and Country Club, the Spillville Historical Action Group, and active in the Boy Scouts. Tim has been involved in various duties at Citizens Savings Bank in Spillville and Ft. Atkinson as Executive Vice President and the owner of the Novak Insurance Agency. Tim was a lifetime member of St. Wenceslaus Church in Spillville. Tim enjoyed golfing, bowling and Black Jack Tournaments in Las Vegas. Tim is survived by his wife, Cheryl, Spillville IA. His children: Greg (Vicki) Novak, Gilbert, AZ; Jenny Lynch, New Orleans, LA; Mike (Dionne) Lynch, Ft. Polk, LA; Kris Lynch, Spillville, IA. Eight grandchildren: Eli Timothy Novak, Christopher Patton, Nichole Lynch, Jennifer Lynch, Michael Lynch, Timothy Lynch, Joshua Lynch, Jason Engen and fiancée Jess Panos. One great-granddaughter: Delainee Lynch. One sister-in-law: Sonja Bruening, Decorah, IA. Tim was preceded in death by his parents Roy (July 1973) and Barbara (November 1999). In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to South Winneshiek Dollars for Scholars or The Spillville Library
