Terry Uhlenhake, age 76, of Decorah, Iowa, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, Iowa, following a four-year journey with cancer.

A celebration of life will take place this summer in Decorah.

Born in Holbrook, Arizona, on November 23, 1949, Terry graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1967. She married David Uhlenhake on February 23, 1974. Following the birth of her daughters, Kim and Jenny, she enrolled as a student at Luther College, earning her degree in political science and anthropology in 1991. She worked at Luther in the Dean’s Office, the International Students Office, and the Study Abroad Office. During her time at Luther, Terry helped students who sought learning experiences in other countries, traveled to over a dozen nations, and forged lifelong friendships with people from around the world. Terry loved to cook and was known for hosting large meals for international students at her home. She lived in rural Ossian for forty-two years before moving to Decorah in 2016.

Terry was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie “Ike” (1916-82) and Betty (1927-2025), and her brother Jerry (1951-53). She is survived by her husband, David; her daughters Kimberly Stonerook (Jason) and Jennifer Courtney; her granddaughter Abigail; and her brothers Les (Bev), Brett, Perry (Teresa), Dennis (Melanie), and Rodney (Aggie).

Terry will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and as a selfless and generous friend who treated everyone she met with warmth and kindness.
