Terrie Brooks

Terrie M. Brooks, age 68, of Decorah, Iowa, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2018 at her home in Decorah. Her wish was to be cremated.     A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah with Rev. Melissa Bills officiating. Private Family Inurnment will be in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, one hour before the service, at First Lutheran Church. Terrie was born February 14, 1950 to Paul and Dorothy (Anderson) Welch in Fargo, ND. She was raised in Moorhead, MN where she graduated from Moorhead High School in 1968.  After graduation she moved to Southern California where she lived most of her adult life.  Terrie married Jerry Wieland in 1970.  They were divorced and in 1978 she married Nelson Brooks, and they adopted a son, Justin.  After her divorce from Nelson she moved to Decorah in 1986 to be near her family. Terrie loved all animals especially her dogs and cats, most recently her cat of 20 years, Paws.  She also loved to cook, make crafts and would often bring them to fellow workers.  She enjoyed hearing about her grandchildren and going places with her family from Decorah. Terrie loved decorating her home for all holidays and had an extensive Santa Claus collection. Terrie is survived by her son, Justin; grandchildren, Sophia, Olivia & Nathan; sister, Georgiann (Doug) Eckheart; nieces, Janee (Ross) Anderson and Sara Morton; and nephews, Paul (Elaine) and Kyle (Lynda) Eckheart, and their families; a very special friend, Debbie (Mullins) Gerber; and other friends from CA, Moorhead, MN and Decorah. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul & Dorothy Welch. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Terrie Brooks Memorial Fund or to the Humane Society of NE Iowa.
