Sylvia Hybl

     Sylvia Hybl, age 71, of Decorah, IA, died on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at the Thornton Manor in Lansing, IA.      Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Phelps Park, Shelter #1, on the corner of Park and Vernon Street in Decorah. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Fort Atkinson, IA, with Rev. Darian Hybl presiding.      Sylvia Mae Hybl was born on August 4, 1943, in Minden, Nebraska, the daughter of Frank and Frances (Pirkl) Hybl. Sylvia graduated from Jackson Junction High School in 1960 before they consolidated with Turkey Valley. She attended Area One College (Northeast Iowa Community College) in Calmar, with a degree in Interior Design. She worked for one year at a fabric shop in Des Moines. She worked various jobs in Decorah, Cedar Falls and Waseca, MN, doing care of the elderly, child care and cleaning of homes. After Sylvia’s health declined, she entered the Aase Haugen Nursing Home and then to Thornton Manor in Lansing. Sylvia loved cats and was a devoted pet owner. She enjoyed crocheting and drawing. Sylvia was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Calmar, IA, where she also taught Sunday School.      Sylvia is survived by her four siblings: Virginia Hybl, Decorah, IA; Richard “Dick” (Katherine) Hybl, Stafford, VA; Charles “Chuck” (Doris) Hybl, Keysville, VA; and Gloria Fitzgerald, Mount Airy, MD, along with many nieces and nephews.      Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Frances (Pirkl) Hybl. One brother-in-law: James Fitzgerald.
