Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, December 12 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, and on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m., one hour before the service, at the church. Steven Henry Hove was born on May 17, 1952 at the Smith Memorial Hospital in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Milton and Marjorie (Olson) Hove. He was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church in rural Decorah. Steve attended Decorah Community Schools and graduated with the class of 1970. He then attended Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa and graduated with the class of 1972. Steve returned home to Decorah and became a partner with his dad, Milton in the dairy farming operation. Steve was united in marriage to Paula R. Meinecke on May 20, 1972 at First Baptist Church in Forest City, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children, Phillip and Jenny. Steve was a member of First Lutheran Church in Decorah, served as Glenwood 4H leader for many years, a lifetime member of the Winneshiek County Fair Association, and the Winneshiek County Dairy Association. Steve was a good-hearted, quiet and hard-working man. He loved the outdoors, the land, and his precious milk cows. He always had the time to take breaks and would take many with his nieces, nephews and family friends. He enjoyed jeeping, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, riding the horses or going for a tractor ride. He would most likely try to teach you how to drive. Steve brought great joy to his family and many friends. He will be missed but remembered as a gentle spirit with a big heart. He was preceded in death by his father Milton on August 17, 1999; father- and mother-in-law Cecil and Romola Meinecke; and brother-in-law Bradley Meinecke. Steve is survived by his wife Paula; son Phillip Hove of Decorah; daughter Jenny Hove of West Des Moines, IA; his mother, Marjorie Hove of Decorah; three sisters, Susan Hove and Joann Voltmer of Decorah and Ruth (Randy) Schultz of Overland Park, KS; a sister-in-law, Jane (Greg) Robertson of Van Meter, Iowa; and 8 very special nieces and nephews: Gerad and Anna Voltmer, Lauren and Alex Schultz, Nick and Cecily Ambroson, Amy and Molly Jo Meinecke. I, along with my family, want to thank each and every one of you for the kindness you have shown through my journey through cancer. For those who will travel this journey as I have, let others help you along the way and take the moment seriously, but live as it were your last!
