June 6, 1939 — June 29, 2021

Sharon A. Kumpf, age 82, of Iowa City, IA and formerly of Decorah, IA, died Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at Colonial Manor in Amana, IA. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 5, 2021 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah with Rev. Rev. Stacey Nalean - Carlson officiating. Sharon Ann Kumpf was born June 6, 1939, to Spencer and Lois (Burroughs) Spores in Dorchester, Iowa. She attended Waukon High School and graduated with the class of 1957. She was united in marriage to Fred Kumpf on May 3, 1958. Sharon had one daughter, Kimberly. She worked at various jobs throughout her life. After high school she worked at Mansfield in Spring Grove and later Deco in Decorah. She really found her niche as a cook at Oneota Riverview Care Facility and Country Kitchen. Sharon was the best cook around. Never needing a recipe. After she moved to the Iowa City area in 1999 to be closer to Kimberly and David, she enjoyed working part-time at The Kitchen Experts. She was the best salesperson there with her passion and knowledge for all things kitchen related. Sharon was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and auntie. Of all her titles, she took the most pride in being called Nana. Spending time with her grandson was her favorite thing to do. Their relationship was priceless. Her hobbies included fishing, mushroom hunting, shooting pool, and playing cards. She was a fierce competitor, and you just knew you were going to lose to her no matter what the game. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred on November 24, 1979; her parents Spencer and Lois Spores; and several aunts and uncles. Sharon is survived by her daughter Kimberly (David) Carolan of Tiffin, IA; grandson Carter Carolan of Tiffin; sister Karen Benassi of Rochester, MN; niece Jamie (Henry) Grenz of Eyota, MN; and 3 great-nephews: Blake, Gunnar, and Duke.
