Sandra Albertson

Sandra Albertson, age 85, of Ridgeway, IA, died on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at the Wellington Place Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Peace Lutheran Church, 745 County St., Ridgeway, IA, with Rev. Nathan Wicks presiding. Burial will be in the Lincoln Cemetery, Ridgeway, IA. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., at the Helms Funeral Home, 306 East Water St., Decorah, IA, and also after 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the church. Sandra Jean Albertson was born on April 15, 1938, in Wright County, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Cora (Gord) Roetman. She graduated from Riceville High School. She was united in marriage to Jerry Albertson on December 15, 1957, in Riceville, IA. Sandra was active in 4-H all through school and spent many years as a leader for the Lincoln Sunflowers including running the 4-H food booth. She was known for her crafting and baking. You could often see her year after year at numerous craft shows and farmer’s markets. She made lefse for the Dayton House, many local churches, and Nordic Fest. She made countless batches of lefse, krumkake, sandbakkels, rosettes, rommegrot, cinnamon rolls, and molasses cookies, all of which were favorites at every family gathering. Sandra enjoyed sewing and quilting. From sewing doll clothes, children’s books and even the Grandchildren’s Halloween clothes to creating quilts for High School seniors at Peace Lutheran Church and the Ewalu fundraiser, it was rare to see her sewing machine and craft table empty. She spent hours reading her books and she loved and enjoyed her Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren. Sandy is survived by her children: Keith Albertson, Kendallville, IA; Peggy (Keith) Sersland, Decorah, IA; Connie Humpal, Sumner, IA; Susan (Gary) Hovey, Ridgeway, IA; Dawn (Jeff) Horns, Decorah, IA. Grandchildren: Andrea (Andrew) Albers, Robin (Jeff Bliss) Sersland, Shawn Sersland, Jessica (Jeremy) Bruns, Mitchell Donlon, Amber (Mike) Whitesell, Devin (Erica) Albertson, Daric (Phoenix) Henkes, River Horns, and Cloey Horns. Great-grandchildren: Andrew and Ella Albers, Lily and Kaylee Hovey, Catrina, Gabby, Damien, and Caiden Bruns. Hadlee, Waylon, and Conway Whitesell. Brother: Wayne (Sandy) Roetman. Sister-in-law: Betty Josephson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Albertson (May 1, 2014). Parents: Walter & Cora Roetman. Father and mother-in-law: Joseph & Ella Albertson. Grandchildren: Nicole Albertson and Jay Sersland. Great-grandson: Rhett Hovey. Son-in-law: Paul Zander. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Dale Roetman, Juliet & George Marhoul, Elnora & Curtis Marlow, Milton Schnitzler, and Gerald Albertson.
