Ruth A. McClintock, age 92 of Decorah, Iowa, died Monday morning, April 4, 2016 at Wellington Place in Decorah. Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 7, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in Decorah, with the Rev. John Caldwell officiating. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery in Rossville, Iowa. Visitation was from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 6 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, and on Thursday beginning at 10:00 a.m., one hour before the service, at First United Methodist Church. Ruth A. (Knight) McClintock was born August 1, 1923 in McGregor, IA to Louis Alpha and Leila (Cahoon) Knight, the oldest of four daughters, Ruth, Betty, Hazel and Shirley. Upon finishing eighth grade, it was decided that she needed to stay home to help care for her younger sisters and mother. She also worked for families in the area. While working for a family near Rossville, IA, she met Sidney M. McClintock. They were married on January 9, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah, where Sidney was stationed for a while during WWII. They were blessed with four children: Donald, LeRoy, Sydney Kay and Nancy. Upon discharge from the army, Ruth and Sidney returned to Iowa where they lived and farmed in the Waukon & Decorah area until 1977, when they moved close to Decorah on the Pole Line Rd. Ruth then started to work at several businesses in Decorah including L & M Fabric Store, the Methodist Church as a Parish Worker, the Dayton House & Serendipity. She was a 4-H leader for many years, sharing her love for sewing, baking, gardening and more by helping young people learn these skills. Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church, active on many committees, UMW and in the kitchen. She enjoyed many years as a member of the Town & Country Garden Club. She volunteered many years at Winneshiek Medical Center, Aase Haugen Home, Wellington Place and for the Winneshiek County Cattlemen Beef Quarters. Ruth became a resident of Wellington Place in September 2013, and she passed away there on Monday morning, April 4, 2016 at the age of 92. Ruth is survived by her children: Don & Karen McClintock of Long Grove, IA, LeRoy & Deanna McClintock, Syd & Dick Stephenson, Nancy & Mark Ruen, all of Decorah; her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Lori & Brian Martin, Mary Jo (Jason), Jacob & Tyler; Jodi & Eddie Ballard & Georgia; Matt McClintock; Beth & Corey Sims, Gavin & Jordan; Randy & Breanna McClintock, Avryn, Rylin & Colby; Karla & Justin Lechtenberg, Brinley & Eloise; Kari & Clint Koch, Colton & Wyatt; Erica & Peter Lea, Kirsten & Simon; Tracy & Dan Leidl, Nate & Samantha; Brian & Michelle Thill, Sophia & Audrey; her Norwegian daughters, Berit Ingrid Hoyne and Mette Bowen; and by many special nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Sidney on May 23, 1992; daughter-in-law Virlis (Sacquitne) McClintock on April 4, 2002; great grandson Nolan Koch on August 5, 2010; and her sisters Betty Hill, Hazel Hill and Shirley Beisker. Ruth was very special care-giver and mentor to all of her family & many friends. She especially loved her Church Family and in the last few years, her care-givers, the staff at Wellington Place.
