Ruth Louise Foltz

Ruth L. Foltz, age 98, of Decorah, Iowa died Sunday, May 8, 2005 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 12, 2005 at First United Methodist Church in Decorah, by the Rev. Carol A. Kress. Burial will be in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah. Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at Fjelstul Funeral Home and an hour prior to the services on Thursday at the church. Ruth Louise (Gremm) Foltz was born at home in Canoe Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa on December 4, 1906, to Conrad and Ida (Schoo) Gremm. Ruth was educated in the rural schools of Winneshiek County. She married Garnivillo E. Foltz at the United Methodist parsonage in Decorah on November 24, 1926. One son was born to this union, Dale Eugene. Ruth and Garn farmed in Winneshiek County prior to 1948 when they moved to Decorah. Ruth then worked for many years at Ted’s Tobacco Store and later in housekeeping at Luther College from where she retired. Ruth enjoyed every moment that she could spend with her three granddaughters and six great-grandchildren. She was an active member for many years at the Decorah Senior Citizens Center where she spent many hours stitching quilts and playing cards with her friends. She was also an active member of the United Methodist Church in Decorah and her church circle. Ruth became a resident of Aase Haugen Home on November 30, 2001. She died there on Sunday, May 8, 2005 at the age of 98 years. She is survived by one son, Dale (Arlene) of Decorah; three granddaughters, Diana (Dale) Wilharm and Kari (Steve) Tjossem of Decorah, and Annette (Ron) Owens of Kansas City, Missouri; six great-grandchildren: Nick and Alex Wilharm, Kirsten and Tanner Tjossem, and Blake and Lindsey Owens. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law Virginia Gremm of Hiawatha, IA and Madonna Ross of Cedar Rapids, IA and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Garn on January 25, 1971; one sister, Leora Foltz; three brothers, Roy, Leonard, and Ray Gremm; and two half-sisters, Pearl Fox and Florence Haakenson.
