Ruth Borseth

Ruth Borseth, age 78, of Decorah, IA, died on Friday, September 16, 2011, at Wellington Place Nursing Home in Decorah, IA. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at the Madison Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, IA, with Rev. Mike Massa presiding. Burial will be in the Madison Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Tuesday morning. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge of arrangements. Ruth Carolyn (Jerdee) Borseth was born on January 12, 1933, the daughter of John E. and Elvina (Trae) Jerdee in Albert Lea, MN. Ruth attended Village school, graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1951 and Luther College in 1955. She taught elementary school in Decorah from 1956-59. Ruth married Robert Borseth on June 7, 1959, at the East Freeborn Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, MN. Together they farmed in Madison Township, where they raised their family. Ruth was a member of the Madison Lutheran Church and Ladies Circle, the Farm Bureau, and the Farm Bureau Woman’s Chorus. Ruth is survived by her two daughters: Kristin (Charles) Daws, Bluffton, OH and Rebecca (Lloyd) Spielbauer, Volga, IA. One son: Mark (Betsy) Borseth, Harvest AL, and eleven grandchildren: Stephanie (Jake) Kaufman, Madrid, IA, Christina Spielbauer, Muncie, IN, Elizabeth, Robert, Cassandra, and William Spielbauer, Volga, IA, Kaitlyn and Mathew Daws, Bluffton, OH, and Nathan, Andrew, and Peter Borseth, Harvest, AL. She is also survived by one sister: Evadne Schager, Sheffield, IA. Two brothers: Lowell (Jan) Jerdee, Albert Lea, MN, and Steven (Julie) Jerdee, Hayward, MN. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents: John E. and Elvina (Trae) Jerdee. Her husband: Robert Borseth on April 18, 1986. One brother: Carlyle Jerdee in 1998. One brother-in-law: Craig Schager.
