Ruby Winter

Ruby Winter, age 72, of St. Lucas, Iowa, died on Thursday, May 04, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family in her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 8, 2006 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa, with Rev. Marvin Salz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel in Fort Atkinson, Iowa, and after 9:30 a.m. Monday morning at the church in St. Lucas. There will be a rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. Ruby Sylvia Winter was born on May 24, 1933, Chickasaw County, Iowa, the daughter of Reuben and Emma (Vsetecka) Kalishek. Ruby graduated from Rudolphinum High School in Protivin, Iowa. She married Delbert Winter on October 14, 1957 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. To this union, six children were born. Ruby kept herself busy farming with her husband. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening and golfing with friends. She was also a good cook and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church and Rosary Society. Ruby’s survivors include her husband, Delbert Winter, St. Lucas, IA; Children: Steve (Deb) Winter, Alpha, IA; Ron (Barb) Winter, Oelwein, IA; Barb (Brett) Wall, Delhi, IA; Randy Winter, Vienna, IL; Gary (Karla) Winter, Ossian, IA; Julie (Troy) Schager, Kasson, MN. Eighteen grandchildren: Heather, Christopher, Jenna and Jaedyn Winter; Lucas, Tonya and Brianna Winter; Kelli and Kendra Kregel; Kelsey and Sammy Wall; Matthew, Ashley and Corrine Winter; Chelsea and Nathan Winter; Tyler and Allison Schager. Four sisters: Verdene (Harvey) Knutson, New Hampton, IA; Juanita Schluetter, Washington, IA; Lorene (Vern) Porter, Karlstad, MN and Carole Ann Wiltgen, Cedar Rapids, IA. One brother-in-law: Duane Carney, Kansas City, MO and several nieces and nephews. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents: Reuben and Emma Kalishek; a brother and sister-in-law: Lydel & Jane Kalishek; a sister: Mary Carney; three brothers-in-law: Vitalis Andrea, Roger Schluetter and Guy Wiltgen and one nephew: Larry Wiltgen.
