Roy Nelson

Roy C. Nelson, age 88, of Decorah, IA, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024, at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at First United Methodist Church, 302 West Broadway Street, Decorah, IA. Visitation will be 1 hour prior. Burial services will immediately follow the memorial service at Monona City Cemetery in Monona, IA. Roy Carl Nelson was born on June 5, 1936, to Carl and Carrie (Everett) Nelson. He grew up on a farm near Luana, IA, with his parents and sister Evelyn. Roy graduated from Luana High School in 1954 and Iowa State College with a Bachelor of Science in 1958. Roy married Beverly Warren on August 24, 1958, and they had two sons, Norman and Stephen. Roy worked for architects and designed buildings in Decorah, including some at Luther College. He had many hobbies including fixing computers, hunting, canning, baking cookies and peanut brittle and other hard candies, remodeling the Nelson house and the houses of friends and relatives. Roy read many books on history and talked history with his father. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Ernest Kyle. Roy is survived by his wife, Beverly; his sons, Norman and Stephen (Jerene); and nieces and nephews.
