Rosemarie Anderson

Rosemarie Anderson, age 96, of Decorah, IA, died away on August 25, 2022, at Barthell O.E.S Home in Decorah, IA. Rosemarie was born in New Haven, CT on January 10, 1926. Eventually, she moved to the Bronx, NYC, where she attended an all-girl school in Manhattan. This required her to take the subway to and from, which she just hated! She met her future husband Leon “Andy” Anderson in 1944. They met at an amusement park in New Haven, CT, when Andy was stationed in New London, CT while they were decommissioning his submarine USS Seadragon after its four-year service in the Pacific and China Sea, the war with Japan. After their marriage, March 10, 1945, Andy moved her to his hometown, Cedar Rapids, IA, by train. She never forgot that train ride, fascinated by so much openness and greenery! She remained in Cedar Rapids until Andy’s retirement. They then moved to north of Decorah on an acreage owned by Andy’s parents, which she loved so dearly! She lived there until health required her to move into the Eastern Star Home. Rosemarie is survived by her sons: Robert Anderson, Decorah, IA, and Richard (Barb) Anderson, Decorah, IA; Daughter-in-law: Jeanette Andrew Anderson, Decorah, IA; Sister-in-law: Marlyce Murdoch, Marion, IA; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-granchildren and many nieces & nephews. Rosemarie is preceded in death by her husband: Leon “Andy” Anderson; Son: Ronald Anderson; Parents: Murray and Dorothy Ornstein; Father-in-law and mother-in-law: Leonard and Marie Anderson; Brother-in-law: George Murdoch; Sisters: June and Catherine; great-nephew: Brett Murdoch.
