Rosa Torvik

Rosa Torvik, age 88, of Waterloo, IA formally of Decorah, died on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at her home in Waterloo, IA. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Ave in Decorah with Rev. Allen Vik presiding. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Phelps Cemetery. Rosa Beatrice Torvik was born on March 20, 1933, the daughter of Lester and Josephine (Schwarz) Bergan in Decorah, Iowa. Rosa graduated from Decorah High School in 1951. After graduation, Rosa attended the University of Iowa, majoring in home economics. After one year Rosa transferred to Luther College and continued her studies for 2 more years. During school she also performed administrative duties at the old Winneshiek County Memorial hospital where her mom was the Administrator. Rosa married Byron Torvik on Dec 10, 1961 at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah, and to this union, three children were born: Martha, James and Matthew. Rosa and Byron took over the old Oneota Lanes on Water Street from her parents, and later built the new bowling center that stands today, opening in 1977 and operating it until retirement in July 1983. Rosa enjoyed travelling and visiting her children and grandchildren. Rosa was a master with crossword puzzles and was a keen fashion enthusiast! Rosa is survived by her Children: Martha Torvik, Cedar Falls, IA, James (Cindy) Torvik, Clive, IA, and Matthew Torvik, Waterloo, IA. Grandchildren: Lindsay, Meredith, and Nathan Torvik. Step- Children: John (Karen) Torvik, New Castle, CA and Kathy (Bill) Glowac, Albert Lea, MN. Step-grandchildren: Stacey Reuland, Alice Gotfredson- Herrera, Kristin Larson, and Stephanie Jansen. She is preceded in death by her husband, Byron Torvik in 2008. Parents: Lester and Josephine (Schwarz) Bergan. Father and mother-in-law: Bastian and Mae Alice (Jensen) Torvik. Brothers-in-law: Peter (Eleanor) Torvik and James (Ileen) Torvik. Sister-in-law: Sandra Carmain.
