Robert Roney

Robert “Bob” Roney, age 73, of Decorah, Iowa, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at his home, surrounded by his family, from lung cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 16, 2007, at the Decorah Lutheran Church with Rev. James Glesne, Rev. Bryan Robertson and Rev. Allen Vik officiating. Burial will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak, Iowa. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Friday morning. Robert Ralph “Bob” Roney was born on October 8, 1934, in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Angeline (Klotzbach) Roney. Robert was baptized and confirmed at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church. Bob attended rural country school, worked for area farmers and at Carlson’s. He worked for forty-two years at the Decorah Creamery and later Wisconsin Dairies, retiring in 1996. Bob married Joanne Kimber on September 10, 1955, in Winona County, Minnesota. Bob enjoyed fishing, camping, polka music, visiting with his brother and sisters and anyone else who would like to chat. He especially enjoyed and loved his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bob’s survivors include his wife, Joanne Roney, Decorah, IA. One daughter: Vicki (Robert) Kelly, Decorah, IA. Six sons: William “Bill” (Patricia) Roney, Decorah, IA; David (Mary) Roney, Rapid City, S.D.; Daryl (Wendy) Roney, Decorah, IA; Jeff (Doreen) Roney, Decorah, IA; Dan Roney, Decorah, IA and Mike (Lisa) Roney, Decorah, IA. Twenty-three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Four sisters: Jeanette Harms & husband Gordon, Pierre, SD; Ruth Farley, Lansing, IA; Elaine Kessler, Port St. Lucie, FL and Trudy Barrett, Loveland, CO. Five brothers: Donald Roney & wife Arlene, Loveland, CO; Arlin Roney & wife Pat, Moncks Corner, SC; Duane Roney & wife Linda, Charles City, IA and Dale Roney & wife Dawn, Waukon, IA and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Four Aunts: Margaret “Peggy” (John) Wikan, Waukon, IA; Audrey Smock, San Diego, CA; Evelyn (Jim) Anderson and Decorah, IA; Ardis Klotzbach, Decorah, IA. One sister-in-law: Phyllis Martin, West Union, IA and one brother-in-law: Bob Broghammer, Decorah, IA. Bob was preceded in death by his parents: Ralph on April 9, 2001 and Angeline on August 11, 2006. Seven brothers-in-law: John Barrett, Dick Kessler, Jim Farley, Bernie Gacke, Don Schultz, Merlin Kimber and Bob Martin. One sister-in-law: Vivian Broghammer. His Father and Mother-in-law: William and Nettie Kimber. His grandparents: Theodore & Alvina Klotzbach and John & Pearl Roney
