Robert “Bob” Harland, Sr., age 80, of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, died on Friday, January 6, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Center in West Union, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, IA, with Rev. Marvin Salz presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 9:00 a.m., at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel in Fort Atkinson, IA, on Tuesday morning. Robert “Bob” Lee Harland was born on October 3, 1931, the son of Elmer and Mabel (Baxter) Harland in Washington, Iowa. Bob attended Buffalo #3 Country School in Washington, Iowa and attended Winthrop High School, in Winthrop, Iowa. Bob served in the US Army in Korea for sixteen months. Bob worked at Egge Chevrolet in Calmar, as a body man. In 1964, Bob moved to Fort Atkinson and operated his own body shop until he was burned in an accident that forced him to sell in 1980. After his recovery, Bob worked from 1988-1994 at Camcar in Decorah. Throughout the last forty years, Bob operated Bob’s Tropical Fish Store in Calmar and Fort Atkinson. Bob enjoyed doing carpentry work, hunting, fishing, drawing, gardening, riding his motorcycle, listening to music and dancing. Bob was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the Huber – Steffes American Legion Post #672 in Fort Atkinson. Bob is survived by his son: Robert Lee (June) Harland, Rochester, MN. Three grandchildren: Tabitha, Krista and Joel Harland. Two great grandchildren: Taya and DeAndre. Two brothers: Donovan “Duke” (Dixie) Harland, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Thomas (Judy) Harland, Independence, IA. Two sister: JoAnne (Tim) McInteer, Independence, IA, and Gloria (Bob) Hummel, Independence, IA. Bob was preceded in death by his parents: Elmer and Mabel (Baxter) Harland. One sister in infancy: Linda Harland.
