Rita Anna Hanson

Rita Anna Hanson Rita Anna Hanson was born March 26, 1928, in Crow Wing County, Minnesota the daughter of Marie (Yochum) Sumbs and was later christened as Rita Anna Sumbs, though her father died well before her birth. Rita was united in marriage to Richard Simon Hanson on September 2, 1954 in Pequot Lake, Minnesota. Rita passed away at 7:25 P.M. on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah with her family gathered closely around her bed – family being: daughter, Rebecca and her husband, Bruce Berman, son, Randall with his wife, Jennifer and their two children, Allyka and Aydan, and son, Rodney with his wife, Laura and their two children, Malcolm and Hannah. Together with her husband, Simon, grandson, Reuben and granddaughter, Nyssa, they talked to her by phone from Maine and Ohio in her final hours. Rita’s body was taken to the University of Iowa as a donation for medical education. A memorial service will be held at First Lutheran Church at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 18, 2009. The fifth child in a family of nine children, Rita is survived by three younger sisters: Victoria George of Manhattan, KS, Sophia Doig of Sun Lakes, AZ, and Clara Hilden of Crosby, MN. Memorial gifts may be given to Aase Haugen Home, 4 Ohio Street, Decorah, Iowa 52101, for the fine care they provided for Rita over the past five years.
