Richard Melvin Jevne, age 59, of New Hampton, Iowa, formerly of Decorah, Iowa, died on Monday, June 11, 2007, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa, following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 15, 2007, at the Springfield Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Norman Bauer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, in Decorah, Iowa, and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Friday morning. Richard Melvin Jevne was born on October 14, 1947, the son of Emil and Hilda (Vick) Jevne in Decorah, Iowa. Richard graduated from South Winn High School in 1965. He served in the US Army, returned home and farmed the family farm. He married Julie Gerleman on April 6, 1974 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah, they later divorced. Richard attended Luther College and graduated in 1984. He then worked for the USDA in the Farm Service Agency for Chickasaw County for twenty years. Richard enjoyed watching all kinds of baseball, especially the Decorah Vikings and the UNI Panthers, as well as following his son Zachary in the minor leagues. Richard’s survivors include his two daughters: Jennifer (Brian) Sullivan, Maple Grove, MN and Melissa (Jason) Jevne Larson, Chaska, MN. Two sons: Joshua (Jennifer) Jevne, Plymouth, MN and Zachary Jevne, Decorah, IA. Three granddaughters: Mya, Ruby and Ivy Sullivan. One sister: Harriet (Clayton) Wangsness, Spring Grove, MN and several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents: Emil and Hilda Jevne. Two brothers: Kenneth in 1965 and Robert in 2007.
