Raymond Nienhaus, age 88, of Fort Atkinson, IA, died on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at his home in Fort Atkinson. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 20, 2018, at St. John’s Catholic Church, 201 Oak Street, Fort Atkinson, IA, with Rev. Ivan Nienhaus presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Friday, January 19, 2018 and also after 9:30 a.m., on Saturday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel in Fort Atkinson, IA. Raymond Leo Nienhaus was born on August 24, 1929 at home in Tripoli, Iowa the son of Alfred and Monica (Huber) Nienhaus. He was baptized at the Pin Oak Catholic Church rural Tripoli. Ray graduated from Fort Atkinson Public School in 1947. He served his country proudly from 1951-1953. Upon returning home, he went to work at Frudden Lumber from 1953 until retiring in 1989, a job he loved as he was serving people. Ray married RoseAnn Tekippe on August 18, 1956. Ray was actively involved in the Legion, VFW, Fire Dept., City Council, Foresters, Township Clerk and President of Fort Atkinson Businessmen. Raymond is survived by his wife RoseAnn. Children: Theresa (Randy) Romens, Glenwood, IA; Nancy (Loren Hageman) Kovarik, Ossian, IA; David (DiAnne) Nienhaus, Fort Atkinson, IA and Sue (Darron) Sander, Decorah, IA. Grandchildren: Jessica (Cory) Schouten, Scott (Megan) Romens, Luke (Kira) Romens, Wayne (Latasha) Kovarik, Maria (Sergio Endara) Kovarik, Alyson (Brandon) Haugen, Nicholas (Jared) Nienhaus and Kristina (Tim) Mansheim. Great grandchildren: Keira and James Schouten, Sadie and Maya Romens, Kalise Kovarik, Blake and Caleb Haugen, Claire Mansheim. Siblings and In-laws: Richard (Marilyn) Nienhaus, Darlys Rausch, Phyllis Kipp, Mary (Donald) Kuennen, Joe (Janet) Tekippe, Leonard Soukup. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents: Alfred and Monica (Huber) Nienhaus. Grandson: Roman Kovarik. Brother: Carroll Nienhaus. Sister: Barb Dagit. Mother and father-in-law: Alois and Grace Tekippe. In-laws: Donald Rausch, Kenneth Kipp, Ellen Soukup, Buddy (Luella) Tekippe, Fritz (Betty) Tekippe.In lieu of flowers the family would like memorials made to the new Veterans Memorial in Ft. Atkinson.
