Randy Halverson, age 57, of Calmar, IA, died on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at the Gundersen Health System in LaCrosse, WI. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 8, 2014, at the Stone Ridge Community Church, 1111 Montgomery Street, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Ed Krawczyk presiding. Burial will be in the Calmar City Cemetery, Calmar, IA. Friends may call from 2:00-5:00 p.m., on Sunday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel, 202 South Washington Street, Calmar, IA, 52132, and also after 10:00 a.m., on Monday morning at the church. Randall George Halverson was born on July 8, 1957, the son of Kermit and Olivia (Beer) Halverson in New Hampton, IA. Randy graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1975. Randy was united in marriage to Joyce Dahl on June 17, 1978, at the Hesper Lutheran Church. To this union, three children were born: Jacqueline, Lucas and Sarah. Randy worked at Jack and Jill Grocery Store in Decorah throughout high school. After graduation, he managed the IGA Grocery Store in Calmar. Randy began working at CamCar (now Stanley Engineered Fastening) in Decorah in March 1979, where he worked for 35 years until his health declined this past fall. He held several positions throughout the years, but most currently he was the catalog product manager. Randy had a lot of interests and hobbies that kept him busy. He enjoyed camping, sitting around a campfire, gardening, and watching movies. Randy spent many years attending Rendezvous. He was a longtime member of the NRA and enjoyed target shooting. Randy anxiously awaited warm weather, so he could ride around with the top down in his Mazda Miata convertible. He had an extensive collection of Tilley hats and enjoyed collecting flamingos. Randy was an avid Jimmy Buffet fan. A yearly highlight for him was attending a Jimmy Buffet concert with his wife. Randy had a love for dogs. His beloved Maggie Sue was always by his side. Randy cherished the time he spent with family and friends. He always looked forward to when all of his children and grandchildren were together in the summer and at Christmas time. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, Harper and Gabriel. Christmas was his favorite holiday and he took his job of handing out presents very seriously. He was blessed to have an extended family at work where he was surrounded by loving and caring co-workers. Randy was a member of the Stone Ridge Community Church in Decorah. Randy is survived by his wife: Joyce Halverson, Calmar, IA. Three children: Jackie (Ben) Inbody, Waukee, IA; Sarah (Mike) Kozelka, Decorah, IA; and Lucas (Betsy Evans) Halverson, Boca Raton, FL. Two grandchildren: Harper Inbody, 2½ and Gabriel Kozelka, 7 months. One brother: Gary (special friend, Annie Rude) Halverson, Calmar, IA, as well as many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members. Randy was preceded in death by his parents: Kermit Halverson in 1987 and Olivia (Beer) Halverson in 1986. His father-in-law and mother-in-law: Maurice and Avon Dahl, Sr., both in 2013. His beloved dog, Maggie Sue on November 13, 2014.
