Phyllis "Psyche" Bjerke

Phyllis “Psyche” Bjerke, age 97 of Decorah, IA passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah. Phyllis will be cremated, and her ashes interred alongside her husband at Phelps Cemetery. A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13th, 2023, at Phelps Cemetery. She was a loving wife, mother and sister. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, her brother Donald Bucher and her son-in-law David MacCallum. She is survived by her brother David Bucher and his wife Lucille; her daughter Gretchen MacCallum, her grandson Patrick MacCallum and his wife Jessika and great-grandchildren William and Charlee MacCallum; her son Kevin Bjerke and his wife Juli and her grandchildren Alan and Alex Bjerke and Hadley Wampler. Phyllis was a wonderful woman who cherished her relationships with family and friends. She was a meticulous housekeeper, an excellent cook, a community volunteer and an avid bridge player. During the holiday season her home held the aroma of fresh baked Christmas cookies including Norwegian delicacies from recipes handed down through the generations. In addition, she was very accomplished at needlework and sewing. She created many beautiful pieces throughout her lifetime including two huge, gorgeous, braided rugs for the living room and dining room of her home.
