Philip Severson

Philip Severson, age 86 of Decorah, IA, died on Friday, March 25, 2022, at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, 1316 Canoe Ridge Road, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Adam Starrett presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Tuesday morning. Philip Wayne Severson was born June 3, 1935 the son of Leonard Sr. and Ruth (Iverson) Severson on the family farm north of Decorah, IA. Philip was baptized and confirmed at Big Canoe Lutheran Church. Philip served in the US Army from 1953-1955. Philip married Shirley Faldet on March 17, 1957 at Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church in rural Decorah. Together they raised their family and farmed north of Decorah for many years, until they moved to Decorah in 1995. After farming, Philip worked at the Oneota golf course where he translated his farming skills and work ethic into keeping the fairways and greens prim and proper. Philip was a very committed member of Canoe Ridge, attending every Sunday service until moving into the nursing home. Philip was a handy man, often fixing things around the farm. He enjoyed morning coffee with his friends at McDonalds, listening to and attending polka dances, and watching the RFD channel. Philip is survived by his daughters: Lynn (Dave) Noack, Lori (Bruce) Hovey, and Sherry Elwood all of Decorah, IA. Grandchildren: Jamie (Joe) Poch, Jared Noack, Heather (Mitch) Benzing, Jason (Carrie) Hovey, Whitney (Scott) Selix, Morgan (Justin) Thrailkill, and 14 great-grandchildren. Brothers-in-law: Wayne Leidahl and Merlin Faldet. Sisters-in-law: Donna Severson, Deanna Severson, Ileta Faldet, and Janice Cornelius. Philip was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Faldet) Severson. Parents: Leonard Sr. and Ruth (Iverson) Severson. Brothers: Leonard Severson Jr. and Kenneth Severson. Sister: Carol Leidahl. Father and mother-in-law: Carl and Thelma Faldet. Brothers-in-law: Curtis and Lowell Faldet. Special friend: Doris Engen.
