Paul Marti

Paul N. Marti, age 66, of Decorah, IA died on Thursday, May 23, 2013,surrounded by his family. after a year long battle with cancer. There will be visitation from 3:00 - 6:00 Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Schluter Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, IA, there will not be any other formal service. Paul was born on September 12, 1946 in Waukon, Iowa. Paul graduated from Waukon High School and began working for Edward's Concrete and Construction in Dubuque, IA, shortly after graduation. Paul married Mary Finch in 1967 and they remained in Dubuque until moving to Decorah in 1975 where Paul began his own construction business. In 1977 Paul started working at Camcar where he remained until retiring in 2005. Paul retired with his wife, Mary, to Las Vegas, NV and lived there until last October when, after being diagnosed with cancer, they moved back to Decorah to spend time with friends and family. Before moving to Las Vegas, Paul enjoyed hobby farming, fishing and hunting as well as spending time with family and friends. While living in Las Vegas, Paul took up metal detecting and with his wife, they took many trips to Nevada ghost towns. Paul also enjoyed going on weekend trips to California and fishing off the pier. Paul is survived by his wife, Mary, daughter Peggy (Chip) Piper, two grandchildren Alexandra Loden (Harlan Sande) and Nicholas Frana, one great grandchild, Joshua Sande, six sisters: Cheryl Stussy, Sarah (Harlan) Hovden, Kathryn Coughlin, Nancy Jensen, Helen Marti, Gloria (Glen) Degenhardt and one brother Norman Marti as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-neices and great-nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dale and Bell Finch, his sister Marilyn Moen, his brother, Philip Marti and a brother-in-law, Jerry Jensen.
