Patricia "Pat" Mccormick

Patricia “Pat” McCormick, age 86, of Decorah, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Barthell Eastern Star in Decorah, Iowa.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at  St. Benedict Catholic Church, 307 West Main Street, Decorah, IA 52101, with Father Daniel Knipper presiding. Burial will be at a later date in the St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Helms Funeral Home, 306 E. Water Street in Decorah, Iowa. There will be no visitation prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Patricia was born in LaCrosse, WI on January 29, 1939, to Joseph and Mildred (Tanke) Lynch. She grew up in Hokah, MN with her three siblings Jim, Joe, and Sandy. She graduated from Houston High School in Houston, MN in 1957.

Patricia married Donald McCormick in March of 1958.  They made their home in Decorah, Iowa. In 1968, their daughter Lorie was born and in 1969, their son Brian was born.

Patricia worked at Wapsie Produce, St. Benedicts, Luther College, and Camcar. She retired from Camcar in 1994.

In retirement Pat and Don “wintered” in South Padre Island, Texas for over 20 winters. They met many lifelong friends during those years. In the summer they spent their weekends at their home in Lansing, IA. She enjoyed their view of the Mississippi River and watching the barges go by.

Pat enjoyed family time, especially spoiling her grandkids. In the early days the family made many memories camping. She was an avid sports fan. She cheered for any Iowa Hawkeye sports team and the Minnesota Vikings. These past few years she cheered for Iowa Women’s basketball and the Indiana Fever. If she wasn’t watching sports she was reading. She loved gathering with family and friends for coffee or happy hour.

She was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church. While her children attended St. Benedict’s school she volunteered, and she and Don served on many committees and boards. She was a member of the church circle and on the cemetery committee. She was also a member of the VFW and Fireman auxiliaries.

Pat is survived by her husband of 67 years, Donald McCormick, daughter Lorie (Don) Easter of Ankeny, son Brian (Laurie) McCormick of Plymouth, MN; grandchildren Tim (Ashley) Easter, Chad (Anna) Easter, Hudson (Riley Grussing) McCormick, Hayley (Austin) Engelbert, and Grace Easter. Great grandchildren Gage and Emerson, Sisters in law – Mary McCormick and Jule McCabe and Brother-in-law Carsten Quam and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, siblings James Lynch, Joseph Lynch and Sandra (Lynch) Gjere, Father and Mother-in-law – Joseph and Adeline McCormick, In-Laws – Jerry McCormick, Carol Quam, Kenny McCormick, Dale McCormick, Joyce Gates, and Helen McCormick, Nephews Kyle McCormick and Terry McCormick.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Winn – Med Hospice and Barthell Eastern Star Home for the wonderful care she received.

Patrica was a kind, loving and amazing wife, mother, and grandma to her family and wonderful friend to many. She touched many lives and will be missed by so many.
