Olive "Ossie" Wohlford

Olive “Ossie” Wohlford, age 86, of Decorah, IA, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, IA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013, at the First Lutheran Church, 604 West Broadway, with Rev. Chad Huebner presiding. Burial will be in the Phelps Cemetery, Decorah, IA. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Saturday morning. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorials in memory of Olive to the Aase Haugen Nursing Home, 4 Ohio Street, Decorah, IA 52101. Olive “Ossie” Beatrice (Halversen) Wohlford was born on June 4, 1926, the daughter of Olvin and Beatrice (Bakken) Halversen in Decorah, Iowa. Olive attended Decorah Community Schools. She was united in marriage to Lloyd Wohlford on July 21, 1946, at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah. Besides helping on the farm, Ossie worked at the Cliff House, the American Legion, which later became Nob Hill, Hales and Margaret’s Clothing Store. She enjoyed watching TV Soap Operas and game shows, playing cards, socializing and shopping. Ossie always had a big heart and welcomed all people in who needed a place to live. Her home was always the place to be. Not only was her family important, but she also loved all of their pets. She also gardened and canned produce from her large garden. Ossie was a member of the Hauge Lutheran Church and later the First Lutheran Church when they moved into Decorah in 1965. She was also an Auxiliary member of the Helof Holm VFW Chapter #1977 and Bernatz-Symonds American Legion Post #163. Ossie is survived by her two daughters: Christine Bolson & husband Daryl, Lansing, IA and Margaret “Mugs” Walter & husband Wayne, Decorah, IA. One son: Tommy Jay Wohlford, Decorah, IA. Five grandchildren: Brett Bolson, Anna (Dustin) Darling; Cory (Evelyn) Walter; Adrian (Linda) Walter and Todd (Sara) Walter. Six great grandchildren: Luke, Adam, Matteo, Ariella, Mason and Jay. Two sisters: Leila Wallace, Minneapolis, MN, and Mona Monroe, Decorah, IA. One brother-in-law: Roger Halse, Decorah, IA. Two special nieces: Lisa Witzke and Tina Graham. Ossie was preceded in death by her parents: Olvin and Beatrice (Bakken) Halversen. Her husband: Lloyd Wohlford on Jan. 9, 2004. Her son: Lloyd Wohlford, Jr., on June 17, 1967. Two sisters: Doris (Bill) Mathews and Grayce Halse. Three brothers-in-law: Tom Monroe, Harold Wohlford and Richard Wallace.
