Obituary

Norman Quam, age 86, of Ridgeway, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Evan’s Memorial Home in Cresco, Iowa.

Celebration of life will be held from 3:00-6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Helms Funeral Home, 306 E Water Street, Decorah, Iowa. Burial will be held at a later date in the Springwater Cemetery.

Norman was born on January 9, 1940, to Milford and Elsie Quam, near Ridgeway, Iowa. He graduated the eighth grade from Winneshiek County School. Norman worked many years for Jennerjohn/Holthaus well drilling.

On August 9, 1961, Norman and Doris Engen were united in marriage. They had three children. They were later divorced.

On June 19, 1993, Norman and Maxine Roher were married. With this marriage he gained 5 more children.

Norman was a quiet and private person. He enjoyed seeing his children and grandchildren. He also had a love for horses and any western show. No matter when you stopped by you were pretty much guaranteed to watch a western on the television. He was also a perfectionist, which has also carried on to his children. A few grandchildren have picked up this trait as well.

Norman is survived by his wife, Maxine. His only daughter Christy (Rich) Klimesh and family: Starlette (Dereck) Moellers – Zane, Dawson and Camden Moellers. Brad Klimesh. Ambriehl (Brayton) Boyer – Hunter, Waylon, Taylyn, Winston and Tripp Boyer; Dennis (Tina) Quam; Terry (Joy Peckham) Quam and family: Hazel and Brandon Quam. Dennise (David) Palmer – Alexis (Odin and Lakyn) and Fred Williams. Bonus Daughter - Karla (Jared) Kelly. Stepchildren – Debbie (Terry) Barger, Glen Spalding, Kathy (David) Cotant, Rhonda Bergan, Charlene (Wade) Beavers. Many step-grandchildren. Sisters – Elaine Juve, Nancy (Ronald) Zweibohmer, Penny (Larry) Mestad. Brothers – Carston Quam, Dale (Evie) Quam, Roger (Louise) Quam, and Alfred (Debbie) Quam.  Sisters-in-law: Orma Quam and Maribeth Rover. Brother-in-law: Wayne Lewis along with many nieces and nephews. 

Norman was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Ashley Klimesh; great grandson Anthony Williams; his sisters – Alice Irene, Shirley Dahlstrom and Elsie Lewis; his brothers – Earl Ellingson II, Milton and Roy Quam; sister-in-law Carol; brothers-in-law – Kenneth Juve, Robert Dahlstrom; stepson Carl Bergan.

The family would like to thank Howard Country Hospice and Evan’s Memorial Home for their care towards Norman.
