Norman Fisher

Norman Fisher, age 90, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Thursday, November 15, 2007, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa, following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 19, 2007, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home with Rev. Gene Hermeier, from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Locust officiating. Burial will be in the Locust Cemetery. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and after 1:00 p.m. at the Nursing Home on Monday afternoon. Norman Louis Fisher was born in Canoe Township on the home farm on December 19, 1916, the third child of Fred and Louise (Pfister) Fisher. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church and of this congregation, he has been a lifelong member. He attended rural school in Canoe Township through the eighth grade. During Norman’s younger years, he worked on the VanVliet farm and the home farm. On August 9, 1939, he married Edna Severson at the Big Canoe parsonage. They rented a farm for a few years before purchasing the present farm on 350th Street. Norman’s enjoyments were trapping, hunting, fishing and baseball. Being a very hard working farmer, his crops had to be planted and harvested on time. He also enjoyed having a good time and being around his family members and friends. Norman entered the Aase Haugen home in January 2003. Norman’s survivors include one daughter: Betty (Larry) Priske, Cedar Rapids, IA. One son: Dennis (Marcia) Fisher, Decorah, IA. Four grandchildren: Lynn (Robert) Gibson, Gilbert, AZ; Kimberly (Christopher) Peach, Hudson, NH; Brian Fisher, Des Moines, IA and Manda Fisher, Des Moines, IA. Eight great grandchildren: Joseph, Michael and Andrea Peach; Cameron and Shelby Gibson; Madilynn, Gracie and Cora Fisher. One sister: Doris Hegtvedt, Iowa City, IA. Two sisters-in-law: Marjorie Severson, Decorah, IA and Erlene Fisher, Decorah, IA. One brother-in-law: Roger Danielson, Burr Oak, IA and several nieces and nephews. Norman was preceded in death by his parents. His wife: Edna Fisher on June 28, 2007. Four brothers: Lloyd, Harold, Robert and Arlin Fisher. Memorials may be directed to the Aase Haugen Nursing Home or St. John’s Lutheran Church at Locust.
