Norma Smith

Norma Smith, age 82, of Decorah, IA, died on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at Mayo Hospital in La Crosse, WI. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue in Decorah with Rev. Allen Vik presiding. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. Norma Jane Smith was born on May 20, 1937 the daughter of David and Mildred “Millie” (Kallavang) Knopf on the family farm near Waukon, IA. She married Bud Vine in 1953 and to this union two children were born: Sue and Larry. She later married Dennis Smith in 1967. In her later years Norma worked for Decorah Schools in the cafeteria. Norma loved spending many weekends with Dennis on the river boating, fishing and camping. She loved spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren who adored her. She had many talents, cross stitching, crocheting, baking and an avid reader. In the last few years she also enjoyed kayaking and canoeing with her friend Jack.Norma is survived by her children: Sue (Jay) Dansdill, Decorah, IA and Larry (Millie) Vine, Davenport, IA. Sister: Karen (Gary) Fairchild, Decorah IA, Grandchildren: Brandon (Jennifer) Rude, Brock (Caitlin) Dansdill, all from Decorah IA, Brad (Leah) Dansdill, Elmo New Market, Mn, Chris Vine, Josh (Megan) Vine, Greg (Dez) Vine all from Davenport IA, and 12 Great Grandchildren, and her special friend Jack. Norma was preceded in death by her Husband Dennis Smith, and her Parents David and Millie Knopf
