Naomi Halweg

Naomi Halweg, age 75, of Burr Oak, Iowa, died on Thursday, December 18, 2008, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa, following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, December 22, 2008 at the Burr Oak Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Blevins officiating. Burial will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak, Iowa. Friends may call on Sunday from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa, and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Monday morning. Naomi Elaine Halweg was born on November 26, 1933, the daughter of Paul and Myrtle (Pollitt) Snell on the Snell family farm, near Burr Oak, Iowa. Naomi graduated from Canton High School in 1952. She married Paul Halweg on June 8, 1952 at the Methodist Church in Harmony, MN. Together they raised their eight children and farmed near Burr Oak from 1962-1991. In 1991, they moved into Burr Oak. Naomi worked for Control Data (Northern Engraving) in Spring Grove, MN, cooked for the North Winn School, worked McCabe’s Supper Club and at DECO, retiring in 1995. Naomi enjoyed playing cards, sewing, was an excellent cook, steak was her favorite meal. She dearly loved her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Naomi was a member of the Burr Oak Methodist Church and ladies circle and the Ladies Card Club. Naomi’s survivors include her husband: Paul Halweg, Burr Oak, IA. Four daughters: Bonnie (Toby) Glenna, Lansboro, MN; Pam (Kevin) McCabe, Cresco, IA; Paulette (Randy) Darling, Burr Oak, IA and Shelly (Edward) Fritz, Morristown, MN. Four sons: Allen (Cathy) Halweg, Benton, WI; Jerome Halweg, Decorah, IA; Randy (Julie) Halweg, Ft. Atkinson, IA and Kiven Halweg, Burr Oak, IA. Sixteen grandchildren: Crystal Halweg, Danielle (fiancé, Jason Hinze) Halweg, Michelle Glenna (John) Rein, Rachel Glenna (Adam) Amundson, Melissa Glenna, Travis (Melissa) McCabe, Jason (friend, Tiffany Drilling) McCabe, Renee Darling, Brittney Fritz, Jake Halweg, Jay Halweg, Joreen Halweg, Jesse (fiancé, Alyssa) Halweg, Jenna Halweg, Trista Halweg and Derek Halweg. Five great grandchildren: J.T., Michael and Sari Rein and Maya and Ava Amundson. Three brothers: Virgil Snell, Decorah, IA; Neil (Lenora) Snell, Waterloo, IA and Robert Snell, Decorah, IA, along with many nieces and nephews. Naomi was preceded in death by her parents: Paul and Myrtle Snell. Two sisters-in-law: Gail Snell in 2004 and LaVerne Snell in 2007. One brother-in-law: Lowell Halweg in 2008.
