Morand E. Broghamer

Morand Broghamer, age 81, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Sunday, January 28, 2007, at his home following a long illness. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 2, 2007 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church with Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There will be no visitation; the family will greet friends after the mass. Arrangements are being handled by the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah. Morand Edward Broghamer was born on May 30, 1925, the son of Edward and Agnes (Bergan) Broghamer in Decorah, Iowa. Morand attended Nordness country school. He married Geraldine “Gerry” Truman on September 11, 1948, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Together they operated a dairy farm north of Decorah in the Canoe Ridge area, until he retired in 1988. After they moved into Decorah, Morand worked for the Northland Agency on Aging as a Janitor, until February 2006. Morand was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Farm Bureau and the Luren Singers. Morand was an active father, who enjoyed watching his daughter participate in music and dance; and was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his sons participate and coach sports, such as basketball, baseball and football. Morand was always a happy fellow and always had a smile on his face. Morand’s survivors include his wife, Gerry Broghamer, Decorah, IA. One daughter: Mary Hansen, Cedar Rapids, IA. Two sons: Scott (Kari) Broghamer, Iowa City, IA and Bill (Rose) Broghamer, Pasadena, CA. One brother: Marcellus (Marie) Broghamer, Decorah, IA. Four grandchildren: Joshua & Jenna Broghamer, Iowa City, IA and Cody & Chelsea Broghamer, Pasadena, CA. Two brothers-in-law: Bill (JoAnne) Truman, St. Paul, MN and Tom (Carol) Truman, Canton, MN. Three sisters-in-law: Marge Muchich, Jackson, MI; Wanda (Ralph) Bartels, Houston, TX and Gayleen (John) Sullivan, Independence, KS; and several nieces and nephews. Morand was preceded in death by his parents: Edward & Agnes Broghamer. Father-in-law and Mother-in-law: Ivan & Leona Truman. Son-in-law: Gary Hansen. Niece: Tearza Broghamer and nephew: Jeff Truman. Two sisters-in-law: Anna Marie Truman and Mary Jean Tummel. Two brothers-in-law: Dr. Ralph Muchich and Frank Shelton.
