Mildred A. Jacobson, age 94, of Decorah, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, February 22, 2022, at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, with Rev. Hyeunmee Kang officiating. Burial will be in the Russell Cemetery in rural Decorah. Visitation will begin on Saturday at 10:00 a.m., one hour before the service, at Fjelstul Funeral Home. Mildred Ann (Headington) Jacobson, age 94, a lifelong resident of Decorah, Iowa died on Tuesday morning, February 22, 2022, at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah. Mildred was born at home October 11, 1927, in Canoe Township Winneshiek County, Iowa to Paul Edward and Leila Annie (Enger) Headington. She attended grade school, primary through eighth grade at Canoe Township District #1. Upon graduation from eighth grade Mildred entered Decorah High School, graduating with the class of 1945. She then was employed in the office of Midland Manufacturing Company. Mildred retired after working 44 years for the Department of Human Services in the Decorah courthouse. Mildred married Carsten R. Jacobson March 9, 1948, at First United Methodist Church in Decorah. They had no children. Mildred was a secretary to many organizations, some of which are Winneshiek Physical Therapy, Cancer Society and Russell Cemetery Association. She volunteered an enormous amount of time in the community, including serving as secretary for over 26 years when she belonged to Washington Prairie Lutheran Church and being on the Auxiliary Board of Aase Haugen Homes inc. She is well known for her homemade angel food cakes and apple pies. She was honored to be named the Grand Marshal of Nordic Fest in 2009. Mildred grew up on a farm north of Decorah with five brothers. They all called her Sis which stuck with her. The nephews and nieces did too. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Carsten Jacobson on March 15, 1989, her parents, infant brother Paul 1917, brothers Arthur Headington 1972, his wife Claribel 2014, Robert Headington 1968, his wife Lois 2019, Paul (Dick) Headington 2020 and sister-in-law Edel Headington 2018, four nephews: Lester Headington, Gary Headington, Donald Headington and Michael Headington, great nephew Joey Headington 2012, Carsten’s parents, Ragnvold and Johanna Jacobson, two brothers-in-law, Kenneth (LaVonne) Jacobson and Robert Jacobson. Mildred is survived by her brother John (Jack) C.W. Headington of Decorah and many nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Russell Cemetery.
