Michael Peter Moore was born on January 29, 1941, in Decorah, Iowa.

He went to school from kindergarten through the 12th grade. He was in the Kilties during his younger grades. He attended Luther College for one year before deciding to enlist in the Air Force. Stationed in London, England, then went to Spain for a little more schooling. He was discharged and came back to Iowa in 1964. He married his wife Judy in 1966 and finished college. In his last year at college, he took a creative writing course, which led to him having two paperback books published. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree, decided to go to school for flying at Gopher Aviation in Rochester, Minnesota. When he finished there, he went to Winona, Minnesota as a flying instructor for 7 years. While he was an instructor in Winona, he had this farm in Iowa where he was born and raised on. He decided to get involved with the Dexter cattle that were there from his parents. To this day his love for Dexter’s never died. He also raised pigs and sheep which he did all of while being an instructor. We were back and forth doing chores and working the next day. He never got to see our place in Wisconsin much. Every 2 years while flying we would go to flying seminars in Hudson, Wisconsin. In his spare time, he worked at Kum N’ Go for a short time, also spent some weekends hunting and fishing.

Michael then worked for Duenes Plumbing and Heating firm for about two years. While working at the heating firm he took a semester at Winona State College and took a course in movie and film making. He eventually had to give up working at the firm due to health reasons. This led him back to the farm in Iowa. He took car of his elderly mother and worked at the Winneshiek Coop as a clerk for 28 years until he retired on November 1, 2024. He continued to farm at the same time. His health took a big toll on him until his passing on December 7, 2025.

Michael leaves behind his wife Judy. Two children, Stephanie Ann Moore of Winona, Minnesota and Michael Patrick Moore of Decorah, Iowa. Sister Kay Baker, North Carolina. Nephew Trevor Baker, North Carolina. Cousins, John and Terry Logsdon of Ossian, Iowa, Randy and Linda Logsdon of Bluffton, Iowa, and Scott and Mary Logsdon of Bluffton, Iowa.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Wallace and Daisy Mae Moore. Brother, Robert Walker Moore, and several aunts and uncles.

Michael always said with all the health issues that he couldn’t have had a better nurse, which was his loving wife Judy who took care of him through sickness and in health. “We never went to bed, without giving each other a kiss good night, and a sleep good, see you in the morning” This is how each night ended for Judy and Michael. He was a very smart and ambitious guy.
