Melvin Humpal

Melvin Humpal, age 85, of Calmar, Iowa, died on Saturday, September 19, 2009, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, Iowa, with Rev. Donald Hawes presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar, Iowa, and after 9:00 a.m. at the church on Wednesday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Melvin is survived by his wife: Darlene Humpal, Decorah, IA. One daughter: Melvina (James V.) Bina, Columbus, OH and one son: David (Kathy) Humpal, Calmar, IA. Four grandchildren: Chad (Amanda) Humpal and their son: Landon Alan; Jeremy (Calista) Humpal and their daughter: Gracyn Ella; Jamie Humpal and Megan Humpal. One brother: Ermin (Pauline) Humpal, Milwaukee, WI. One sister: Rosemary Holthaus, Toma, WI. One brother-in-law: Bud (Rita) Jirak, Waucoma, IA, along with many nieces and nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents: Leonard and Cecelia (Klimesh) Humpal. Two sons: John in 1951 and Mark in 1987. One brother: Virgil (Virginia) Humpal. One brother-in-law: Rufus Holthaus. His father and mother-in-law: Frank and Zephie Jirak.
