Mavis Frey, age 95, of Decorah, Iowa, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Gundersen Health Clinic in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Helms Funeral Home, 306 E Water Street, Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Randy Kittelson presiding. Burial will be in Russell Cemetery. A Luncheon will be held at the VFW following the service.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Helms Funeral Home, 306 E Water Street, Decorah, Iowa.

Mavis La Vonne Frey was born on May 23, 1931, in La Crosse, Wisconsin to her parents Elmer and Gladys (Spilde) Borsheim.

Mavis grew up in Decorah, Iowa, she went to the country schools and Decorah High School, she married Kenneth Drievold on September 20, 1947. They were married until he passed away on January 1, 1969. She then married Darrell Frey on November 7, 1970. They were married until he passed away on December 12, 2020. She was a faithful and devoted wife; she visited Darrell in the nursing home every day for 10 years.

Mavis enjoyed many things in life, she enjoyed her home, loved to clean, shine things up around the house, and decorate for the holidays. She enjoyed the family get togethers, cook outs, and birthday parties. Mavis enjoyed the little things as well like getting her hair done, going to morning breakfast at the family table, and even heading to the casino on occasion.

Mavis worked 40 years combined at K&S and Jack & Jill as a checker and bookkeeper. She spent two years at Wellington Place in Decorah, Iowa, where she enjoyed the activities that they provided and was loved by the entire staff of Wellington.

Mavis is survived by her daughter, Judy (Raymond) Koshatka; grandchildren, Denise (Tom) Barber, Erik (Heather) Drievold, and Tonya (Tory) Hughes; great grandchildren, Heidi (Michael) Reed, Hayley (Allen) Massman, Carissa (Jacob) Howe, Mariah (Justine) Hesse, Megan (Chad) Meyer, Kylah Hughes, Kailan (Alejandro) Hughes, Kendrie Hughes, Keegan Hughes, Aydian Hankins, and Morgan Drievold; great-great grandchildren, Braden and Raelyn Massman, Ava and Tristan Reed, Landon and Kasen Howe, and Bryson and Brynlee Meyer; grandson in law, Steve Hesse; daughter in law, Gail Garvey and family; former daughter in law, Chris Thompson; brother, Ron Borsheim; sisters, Elaine Slaymaker and Janice (Wayne) Engelhardt; sister in laws, Janet Borsheim, Shirley Ramsey, Donna Frey, and Darlene Stoen.

Mavis was preceded in death by her husbands and parents; son, Gary; granddaughter, Anita Hesse; grandson, Wade Drievold; great-great grandson, Carter Howe; Ole and Ida Drievold and all of Kenny’s siblings and spouses; Lester and Medeline Frey; brothers, Verl (Jettie) Borsheim, Merton (Susie) Borsheim, and Elton Borsheim; brother in laws, Dick Slaymaker, Jim Frey, Mick (Diane) Frey, Loren Frey, and Tom Ramsey; sister in law, Sue Borsheim.
