Maurene Kae Teslow

Maurene Kae Teslow, 72, of Polk City, Iowa, formerly of Decorah, Iowa, passed away peacefully at her residence on May 24, 2016. Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah with Rev. Stacey Nalean – Carlson officiating. Inurnment will be in Bethlehem Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Ludlow, rural Postville, IA. All who knew Maurene are welcome to join the family in her celebration of life service. Maurene Teslow, 72, of Polk City, Iowa, formally Decorah, Iowa, passed away peacefully at her residence on May 24, 2016. She was born in Decorah, Iowa, grew up and attended a one room country schoolhouse in Glenwood Township, later attended Decorah High School and eventually studied nursing at NITI. She married Stanley J. Maroushek and moved to Spillville, Iowa were she raised 2 daughters and her sister-in-law, Donna Jean to be successful, independent women. She worked hard most of her life as a nurse, office manager for Slim’s Home and Construction (family business) and, using her great “mom skills”, excelled as a dorm mom for Brandt Hall at Luther College. She was always known for her exceptional people skills, humor, generosity and being able to bring out the best of those around her. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Marcene Rae, her brother Larry B. Teslow, parents Edith E. (Fiet) and Lester H. Teslow and her infant daughter, Joan Maurene Maroushek. Maurene is survived by her two daughters and their families: Dr. Nancy Maroushek Boury and Ernest Boury, Sarah and Laura Boury of Ankeny, Iowa; Dr. Stacene Renee Maroushek and Jay Brown, Katerina and Maxwell Brown of Rogers, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to a memorial scholarship fund being set up to support first generation college students.
