Mary Lou Neuzil

Mary Lou Neuzil, age 98, a longtime resident of Calmar, died on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah. She had been a resident there for seven years. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2019, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 304 South Maryville, Calmar, IA, with Rev. Robert Gross presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning at the Church.  Mary Lou was born on August 25, 1920 in the rural St Lucas area to Peter J. and Margaret (Heinen) Smith, the youngest of eight children. She attended St Luke's Catholic School and then moved to Calmar where she met and married Paul Neuzil on July 28, 1941. They were married 60 years before Paul died in 2001. She worked a variety of part-time jobs, all of which put her in contact with people which she enjoyed. Mary Lou also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, crafts, flowers, birds, shopping and was a Girl Scout leader for many years. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her children: Richard (Bonnie) Neuzil of Sioux Falls, SD, Linda (Paul) Bina of Milwaukee,WI, Susan (Gary) Kruger of Rochester, MN, Carol (Alan) Snider of Wyattville, MN. Grandchildren: Kris Bina Midthun (Steve), Brent Neuzil, Karla (Kevin) Anderson, Paula (Dave) Dickson, Tony (Cassie) Siegenthaler, Joe (Ashley) Kruger and Katie (Alex) Kuisle. Great-Grandchildren: Olivia Dickson, Caleb and Wyatt Siegenthaler. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul and all of her siblings.
