Marvin ‘Marv’ Klocke, formerly of Decorah, Iowa, was peacefully called to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at the age of 95. He was born to August and Pauline (Christ) Klocke on November 15, 1922 in Lakota, Iowa. He is a veteran of WW II and served three years with the Army Medical Corps. Marv served with the 101st Evacuation Hospital at Omaha Beach and followed Patton through France and Germany. He received 5 battle stars for service to his country. When he returned home from service he attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. He married Doris Wendland on October 25, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye, Iowa. They were blessed with four children: Kim, Linda, Diane and Kent. Marv opened the K&S SuperValu grocery store in Decorah in 1950. Not only was he owner and manager of the store, he was mentor and advisor to many young people who started their careers working under him. He much loved and appreciated his loyal employees, many who worked for the K&S for many years, even beyond his retirement from the store in 1985. He was an active and charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was involved in the Decorah Ski Association and Nor-Ski Runs, many civic organizations, and Silvercrest and Oneota Country Clubs. In retirement he enjoyed spending the winter months in Arizona. He shared his love of the outdoors with his children. He taught them the joys of traveling and exploring the world, biking, hiking, swimming and other outdoor recreation. Marv taught them all to water and snow ski at a very young age. He was still water and snow skiing with grandchildren when he was into his 70’s. Marv dearly loved all the parks in Decorah where many happy family times were spent. A highlight of his life was fishing in Canada, which he enjoyed with friends and family for nearly 40 years. Most of all, he loved and cherished his family. Marv married Mary (Eich) Stryker on August 20, 1999 at Pax Christi Catholic Church in Eden Prairie, MN. They spent their time between Decorah, Eden Prairie, and Peoria, AZ, and then the last five years in Crystal, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Water Klocke, Glen Klocke and an infant brother; three sisters, Nora Klocke, Luella Smith, and Verna Schwartz; grandson Urich; and his first wife of 41 years, Doris on May 18, 1994. He is survived by his wife, Mary; his 4 children: Kim Klocke (MeriAnn) of Arlington, IA, Kent Klocke (Marla) of Decorah, IA, Linda Naeve (Randy), of Ames, IA, and Diane Krause of Nevada, IA; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren (with 2 on the way); 4 stepchildren: Doug Stryker of Brooklyn Center, MN, Tom Stryker (Cathy) of Coon Rapids, MN, Lynn Harrington (Dennis) of Crystal, MN, and Laura Hatzenbuhler (Jerry) of Rosemount, MN; 9 step-grandchildren; and 4 step great-grandchildren. A Celebration of the Life of Marv Klocke will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Decorah, with Pastor Amy Larson officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah, at a later date, with Full Military Honors by Decorah’s Veterans and Military Organizations, and U.S. Army personnel. Visitation will be held one hour before the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
