Martha Mikota, age 84, of Ossian, IA passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at the Barthell Eastern Star nursing home in Decorah, IA.Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 21. 2018 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 420 East Main Street, in Ossian, IA with Father Robert Gross presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., on Friday, April 20, 2018 at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian and also after 9:30 a.m., at the church on Saturday.Martha (Hageman) Mikota was born April 2, 1934 to Joseph and Elizabeth (Kriener) Hageman near Calmar on the family farm. She was united in marriage to Edward J. Mikota on September 30, 1957 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar. They farmed near Spillville and later moved to Ossian. They were blessed with six children. Martha cooked for South Winn. High School, South Winn. Middle School, DeSales Catholic School and the Senior meal site in Decorah. She was an officer for the Winneshiek County Pork Producers. She was also an officer and a member of the DeSales Rosary Society as well as one of God’s housekeepers for many years. Martha enjoyed crocheting, baking, playing cards, quilting, sewing, traveling, wintering in Arizona and attending sporting and fine arts events of her children and grandchildren. Many of her finest memories came on the dance floor, either square dancing, polka dancing or at wedding dances.Martha is survived by her husband of sixty years: Edward Mikota. Children: Kenny (Nancy) Mikota, Calmar, IA; Denise (David) Schroeder, Chandler, AZ; Janice (Curly) Albrecht, Montezuma, IA; Lori (Randy) Bohr, Ossian, IA and Janine (Mark) Moore, What Cheer, IA. Grandchildren: Carrie (Jason) Hovey, Adam (Julia) Kerian, Bryan Kerian, Cassie (friend, Tony) Kerian, Carlos Schroeder, Kirsten Schroeder, Christian (Katelynn) Albrecht, Corey (Lindsey) Albrecht, Collin Albrecht, Stephanie (Michael) Carper, Nate Bohr, Justin (Abbie) Bohr, Elizabeth Moore and Macy Moore. Six great grandchildren: Knute and Cali Hovey, Trenton Lewis, Ava Kerian, Henry and Emma Carper. Sister: Rose (Linus) Tupy, Fort Atkinson, IA. Brother: Paul (Colleen) Hageman, Decorah, IA. Sisters-in-law: Lucy Hageman, Ossian, IA and Norma (Edmund) Schmitt, West Union, IA.Martha was preceded in death by her daughter: Karen on November 14, 1974. Parents: Joseph and Elizabeth (Kriener) Hageman. Father and mother-in-law: Edward and Lillian (Svestka) Mikota. Siblings: Catherine (Leo) Ott, Conrad (Gertrude) Hageman, Arnold Hageman and Anna (Edward) Ondrashek.This beautiful faith filled woman is cherished by many. A loving wife, caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, relative and friend.
