Marion E. Bakken

Marion E. Bakken, age 74, died Tuesday evening, December 2, 2014 at her home in Decorah. A Celebration of Her Life Reception will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014 in the Parish Hall of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah. Marion Elizabeth Rita (Goyette) Bakken was born on October 13, 1940 in Troy, New York, the daughter of William and Rita E. (Brooks) Goyette. She attended school in Troy. Marion was united in marriage to Arlin C. Bakken on June 28, 1959 in Troy, New York. This union was blessed with four children: Brenda, Arlin, William and Tina. She was a clerk at K & S Supervalu, P & P (Petro & Provisions), Wheatman Cleaners and Casey’s until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Robert Goyette; three sisters-in-law, Rita Goyette, Muriel Bakken and Shirley Abbott; three brothers-in-law, Gabriel Gazelone, Donald Bakken and Merlin Bakken; and father- and mother-in-law, Henry and Kaia Bakken. Marion is survived by her husband Arlin; her four children: Brenda (Andy) Hageman of Decorah, Arlin H. (Fuzzy) Bakken of Oshkosh, WI, William (Cindy) Bakken of Waterloo, IA and Tina (Rod Brown) Bakken of Ettrick, WI; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister, Janet Gazelone of Troy, NY; three brothers: Tom (June) Goyette of Troy, NY, Bill (Colleen) Goyette of Albany, NY and Richard (Juanita) Goyette of Jasper, GA; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Dorothy (Duane) Hanson of Faribault, MN, Hubert (Judy) Bakken of Decorah, Durwin (Jean) Bakken of Kansas City, MO, Katherine Swenson of Decorah, Linda (Doug) Martin of Kansas City, MO and Wendell Abbott of Tulsa, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to WMC Hospice, 901 Montgomery Street, Decorah, IA 52101.
