Marilyn Bolson

Marilyn Bolson, age 82, of Decorah, IA, died on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home, in Decorah, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 15, 2013, at the First Lutheran Church, 604 West Broadway St. Decorah, IA, with Rev. Melissa Bills presiding. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah, IA. Friends may call from 2:00-5:00 p.m., on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue in Decorah, and also after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Monday morning. Marilyn Elaine (Nesseth) Bolson was born on April 26, 1930, the daughter of William and Cora (Finholt) Nesseth on her maternal grandparents farm in Winneshiek County. Marilyn was baptized at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church in May 1930. She was confirmed in Oct. 1945 at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah. Marilyn was united in marriage to Raymond Bolson on August 16, 1947, at the First Lutheran Church, and together they had four children, Karen, Mark, Kristi and Kathi. Marilyn lived in Decorah all of her married life. She worked as a child care provider, homemaker and a sales clerk at Grahams Department Store and JC Penney for 23 years. Marilyn was an active member of the First Lutheran Church and Rachael Circle, where she was active in circles and Women of the Church, serving as officer when needed. She helped in the Food Pantry and with the church bulletin. Marilyn enjoyed playing cards and going out to eat with family and friends. She was the happiest when she could be together for holiday dinners and festivities. Marilyn is survived by her three children: Mark (Marion K.) Bolson, Thornton, CO; Kristi (Randy) Brooks, Mason City, IA; and Kathi Bolson, Decorah, IA. Two grandchildren: Melissa (Paul) Nielsen, and their children: Brooke, Austin and Mollie Nielsen; Nathan Brooks, and his children, Brandon, Jenna and Danika. Two aunts: Jenanne Vikre and Eunice Anderson, both of Decorah, IA. One sister-in-law: Shirley Nesseth, Clawson, MI. Two brothers-in-law: Kenneth (Grace) Bolson and Spencer (Carol) Bolson, both of Decorah, IA, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Marilyn was preceded in death by her father: William Nesseth in July 1941. Her step-father: Emmet Volding in Sept. 1975. Her mother: Cora Volding in Oct. 2003. Two brothers: Bill Nesseth in Aug. 2003 and Carroll Nesseth in Jan. 2009. Her husband: Raymond Bolson on March 16, 2004. Her daughter: Karen Bolson in Jan. 1992. Marilyn’s father and mother-in-law: Stephen and E. Rebecca Bolson. Her brother-in-law: Hubie (Avis) Bolson.
