Marie Schaufenbuel

Marie Schaufenbuel, age 96, of Sumner, IA, formerly of St. Lucas, IA, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2019 at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, IA with Rev. Aaron Junge presiding. Burial will be in St. Luke’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, IA and also after 9:30 a.m. at the Church on Wednesday morning.  Marie Serena (Stammeyer) Schaufenbuel was born on May 8, 1923 the daughter of Peter and Magdelena (Klemmer) Stammeyer on a farm near St. Lucas, IA. She attended St. Luke’s Catholic School through eighth grade. Marie worked with her family on the farm for a few years before working in LaCrosse at a care center. She married William Schaufenbuel on September 13, 1943 and together they had thirteen children. They farmed near Waucoma and also owned and operated Your Choice Beef in West Union until she retired. Marie enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing cards, baking, was an avid reader and loved playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and church choir. Marie is survived by her children: Bill (Joyce) Shaufenbuel, Sumner, IA; Wayne (friend Tina) Schaufenbuel, Newport, NC; Ivan (Mary) Schaufenbuel, Windon, MN; Don Schaufenbuel, Cresco,IA; Dean (Ann) Schaufenbuel, St. Lucas, IA; Joe (Lynn) Schaufenbuel, Stevens Point, WI; Carroll (Ann) Schaufenbuel, St. Lucas, IA; Keith (Rhonda) Schaufenbuel, St. Lucas, IA; Inez (Ed) Kruse, Cresco, IA and Alice (Michael) Hackman, Waucoma, IA. Son-in-law: Phil DiPaolo, Poplar Grove, IL. Grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. Brothers: Leander Stammeyer, Sumner, IA; Frank Stammeyer, Oelwein, IA; Joseph Stammeyer, Waukon, IA and David (Jackie) Stammeyer, Quincy, IL. Sister: Anita Herold, Fort Atkinson, IA. Sisters-in-law: Julie Tallman, Decorah, IA and Cindy Stammeyer, Cedar Rapids, IA along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband William. Children: John and Thomas in infancy and Lois DiPaolo. Grandson: Todd. Daughter-in-law: (Janice Vrba) Schaufenbuel. Parents: Peter and Magdelena (Klemmer) Stammeyer. Siblings: Don (Margerete) Stammeyer, Peter Stammeyer, Irene (Jim) Riffle, Florian Stammeyer, Margaret Stammeyer, Richard Stammeyer. Father and mother-in-law: Joseph and Anna Schaufenbuel.
