Marie Neuzil, age 88, of Fort Atkinson, IA, died on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2013, at St. John’s Catholic Church, in Fort Atkinson, IA, with Rev. Nick March presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Friday, March 8, 2013, and from 9:00-10:00 a.m., Saturday morning at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel in Fort Atkinson, IA. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 5:00 p.m. Marie Mathilda (Rilling) Neuzil was born August 3, 1924, to John and Celia (Kuhn) Rilling in Fort Atkinson, IA. Marie attended St. John’s School and graduated from Fort Atkinson High School. Marie married Bernard Neuzil July 1, 1957, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. Marie worked at Huber’s Store in her early years. She was a chaperone for the girls’ basketball team, served as a den mother for the Cub Scouts, volunteered at the hospital, and did dog grooming. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and canning, going on motorcycle rides, and boating with the family. Marie was a lifetime member of St. John’s Catholic Church. Marie is survived by her husband: Bernard Neuzil, Fort Atkinson, IA. Four children: Donald (Ann) Neuzil, Waukon, IA; Linda Neuzil, Fort Atkinson, IA; Marilyn (Danny) Holthaus, Calmar, IA; and Sandra (Jerald) Andera, Spillville, IA. Six grandchildren: Brian, Megan and Amy Andera, Andrew, Alex and Matthew Holthaus. Brothers-in-law: Danny (Ethie) Neuzil, Fort Atkinson, IA, and Norbert (Ione) Neuzil, Decorah, IA. Sister-in-law: Julia (Kenny) Brandt, Cedar Rapids, IA, and many nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her parents: John and Celia Rilling. Brother: Reynold Rilling in 1976.
