Marie Horan

Marie Horan, age 87, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Sunday, December 16, 2012, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue in Decorah, IA, with Rev. Stacey Nalean – Carlson presiding. Burial will be in the Bluffton Community Cemetery, Bluffton, Iowa Friends may call from 8:00-10:00 a.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Marie Edith (Olson) Horan was born on January 14, 1925, the daughter of Ingolf and Hattie (Linderman) Olson near Cresco, Iowa. Marie attended rural country schools near Cresco, Iowa. She married Thomas Horan on January 8, 1944. Together they farmed north of Decorah near the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church. Marie was a wonderful baker, and made delicious pies, breads and cookies for all. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards and yahtzee, and her Schipperke dogs. Marie was a member of the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church. Marie is survived by her four grandchildren: Pamela, Tony, Walter and Tammy. One sister: Louella (Dervin) Ludeking, Decorah, Iowa. Five nieces and nephews: John (Kim) Olson, Doug (Wan) Perry, Janice (Phil) Perry, Linda (Kevin) Monroe, and Jacob (Cheryl) Ludeking, along with several great nieces and nephews. One sister-in-law: Jerdis Nesheim, Decorah, IA, and one brother-in-law: Jim Perry. Marie was preceded in death by her parents: Ingolf and Hattie (Linderman) Olson. Her husband: Thomas Horan on February 8, 1994. Her son: Donald Horan. One sister: Ruth Perry. Two brothers: Melvin Olson and Freddie Olson. Two nephews: Bernie and Matthew Olson.
